In Reply To Winfactory Top-feed Fuel Rail...Thoughts? I'm thinking posted by Red Hawk (CO) on September 28, 2011 at 03:16 PM

Message and not because this kit doesn't work...its just that there are better (simpler) options for similar money.

Here is what I liked about the product

1) bling
2) Cheaper injector replacement / Readily available
3) It was well made
4) Simple install (after plenum was cut)
5) easy injector replacement
6) with the 870CC injectors it was probably all I would ever need from a flow stand point
7) Innovative

Here is what I didn't like

1) Tune. Getting a plug and play tune for these isn't available. I order an 850cc chip from Z1 to get my car up and running and it almost wouldn't idle.
2) Lack of experience from Z tuners. With 555's, 615's Ash, Grey, Harry, Z1, etc all have lots of experience with what works on different cars. You loose that experience when you switch to an injector that is new to the community. That's not to say that it can't be done...its just not plug and play.
3) Topfeed / Over plenum injectors in general don't appeal to me as much as they once did. With all of the deletes that can be done plenum pulls just aren't that bad anymore. So the quick access feature isn't as big of a deal. And how often do Nismo injectors really go bad? Sure you can get larger injectors with top feed setups but unless you have a very serious build done there really isn't a need.
4) Throttle cable cover doesn't fit without chopping it up.
5) Requires plenum modification. If I had already had my plenum chromed or powder coated this would have been a deal breaker.

If was going to do it over again I would have gone Nismo 740's and 300 degree rail, simply for the fact that it would truly have been plug and play.

And just for clarification I really feel that Winfactory made a quality product in terms of the construction / design. The only complaint I have with them is not addressing the fact that you will need a custom tune for them to work correctly.

On their site they say:

No need for an injector driver!

No standalone engine management!

No machining of the lower plenum!

No need for a custom balance tube!

No core charges of any kind!

Standard tuning practices as you would have for the NISMO or PE injector upgrades!

................. and while all of these things are true, I think it would have been more accurate to state that no plug and play chips on the market work with these injectors (at least not that I am aware of or any of the respected Z tuners that I talked with are aware of)
